THE JOB

The role for this position is mainly to support the Biogas platform, and the development and improvement of SCADA, Data Acquisition System, PLC and HMI. This role will ensure the network interfacing with other on-site equipment (upstream and downstream) and troubleshooting for any issue related to instrumentation and control.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Remotely Support the service team for Biogas upgrading system for the control and process part;
  • Connect online and monitor the PLC sequence to support and make sure everything is good;
  • Proceed to minor PLC and HMI modification when required;
  • Review and modify VFDs (PowerFlex, ABB, Schneider, etc) configuration;
  • Document and properly maintain a PLC/HMI change log.
    • Including the date and brief description of the modification, temporary or not, etc.
    • Keep backup file of previous program.
  • Assist Service team on site to review and test the complete Biogas plant sequence, during commissioning phase of the project;
  • Maintain up to date the project documentation (Control narrative, Alarm list and Setpoint, IO list) in relation to the latest modification done;
  • Assist in all troubleshooting onsite for instrumentation and control equipment, including:
    • Network: Ethernet switch, communication with other equipment, remote gateway configuration.
    • Variable frequency Drive (VFD): Configuration and modification of parameters, reload parameters, establish communication with PLC.
    • PLC: Configuration, minor program changes, programming, interfacing with HMI.
    • HMI: Minor modifications on existing control page, alarm management, local data logging support, trends, etc.
  • Prepare a variety of engineering deliverables and coordinate with other design disciplines, including process, mechanical, and electrical engineering, for a sound and robust control system design;
  • Design and configuration of PLC and HMI/SCADA networks, perform and/or conduct FAT/SAT;
  • Design of Industrial network and control systems including instrumentation and control panels (wiring diagram, panel layout, network architecture, process data acquisition, etc.);
  • Provide technical support to Xebec’s internal clients when required, Sales Team, Engineering, Service, others;
  • Most of the work can be done from remotely, from the Blainville Office, but it may be necessary to travel to site under circumstances where it’s not possible to remotely resolve an issue.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Undergraduate degree in electrical Engineering or related discipline; Degree obtained outside Canada is accepted and supported;
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in similar environment, Oil & Gas, petrochemical, or Energy field;
  • Testing and field start-up and commissioning experience (a strong asset);
  • PLC programming as per international standard IEC-61131 and very familiar with automation procedures as per ISA-106 and ISA-88;
  • Programming experience with PLC software as:
    • Rockwell Automation (Allen-Bradley) Rs Studio 5000 (Rslogix5000, CCW, RsLinx, etc.) is a must.
    • Schneider/Modicon, Unity Pro (is an asset but not mandatory)
    • Siemens TIA Portal (is an asset but not mandatory)
    • Any other PLC software experience (an asset)
  • Programming/design experience on project development with major HMI/SCADA/User interface brand such as:
    • Ignition by Inductive Automation (Vison and/or perspective)
    • Python, SQL, VB
    • Rockwell Automation (Allen-Bradley) FTView Studio SE and ME
    • Schneider, Vijeo Citech, Citect, etc.
    • Red Lion
    • Any other user interface development software (an asset)
  • VFD configuration and programming:
    • Rockwell Automation (AB) PowerFlex series; PF525, PF527, PF753, PF755.
    • ABB VFDs
    • Schneider VFDs
  • Familiar with configuration of PLC and instrument communication protocol such as:
    • Ethernet/IP (AB)
    • Profinet (Siemens, others) – an asset
    • Modbus/TCP, Modbus RTU
  • Familiar with communication protocol converters and gateways such as:
    • Prosoft,
    • DSP from Redlion,
    • Other protocols (an asset)
  • Familiar with Rockwell Automation PlantPAX library, an asset.
  • Knowledge and interest in process equipment, pressure, temperature, flow transmitter.
  • Knowledge of EPLAN, AutoCAD, and MS Visio software (asset).
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software (essential).
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills, both in English and French.
  • Must have a professional attitude oriented towards efficiency and results.
  • Clear commitment to schedule and project deadlines.
  • Ability to work on several projects simultaneously within tight deadlines and different project complexities.
  • Eager to learn and willing for new challenges within the company.
  • Previous experience in Biogas industry (a strong asset).

NOTE: The more relevant knowledge and experience for this position is SCAD Ignition, Pyton programming and DAQ (Data acquisition).

TRAVEL:

Travel for periods of few days / week (1 or 2), once or twice a year in North America and internationally.
3 days in the office
